11 Books To Read In December – Vanity Fair
As we close out this reading year, the Penguin Random House acquisition of Simon & Schuster attempts to trundle on in the face of government pushback; Andrew Cuomo has been ordered to return $5 million earned from his 2020 book; and we’re mourning the loss of bell hooks and Anne Rice. It has been, as they say, a year, and who knows what comes next. Still: “The future is dark,” Virginia Woolf once wrote in her journal, “which is the best thing the future can be, I think.” The nights are as long as ever, but soon we’ll pivot towards lighter days and, happily, good books are as good when lit by the glow of candles, string lights, bedside lamps, or the low winter sun.
